GEFCO obtains a GDP certificate for road transport of pharmaceuticals

The GEFCO Group, a global supplier of supply chain industrial services and a European leader in automotive logistics, has received Bureau Veritas Good Distribution Practice (GDP).

The external auditor reviewed GEFCO's quality system and ability to meet the requirements of customers in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Greece, Romania and the Group's headquarters in France.

The 3-year certificate comes as a guarantee that GEFCO meets the requirements of the European Commission Guideline on Good Practice for the Distribution of Pharmaceuticals for Human Use.

This reflects GEFCO's commitment to providing premium services as well as understanding the challenges faced by partners, including the traceability of goods, thus preventing the risks and dangers of counterfeiting or counterfeiting.

The logistics market in the Life Science and Healthcare industry is changing and becoming increasingly complex. With the increase in the volume of temperature-sensitive products as well as the transport regulations, companies need to focus more on control and security. Failure to comply with this provision could be a danger to public health and also the risk of losing high value cargo.

GEFCO's continued commitment to Life Science and Healthcare

As an expert in Life Science and Healthcare, GEFCO offers integrated logistics solutions, multimodal, with strict temperature control and high-end standards.
In 2019, GEFCO will expand its implementation of GDP certification and road activities to other European countries.

GEFCO has a strong history in Life Science and Healthcare, and is fully aware of its clients' stakes." "Certification of GDP is further evidence of GEFCO's commitment and capability to deliver safe and compatible shipments of Life Science and Healthcare and to ensure product integrity "said Alain Vignon, head of the GEFCO Management System.

Earlier this year, GEFCO opened its third controlled-temperature warehouse near Heathrow Airport in London, UK, continuing GEFCO Air & Sea's warehouse series in Frankfurt, Germany and Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Last year, the group received IATA-CEIV Pharma certification for its air and maritime business in the Netherlands. This compliance certificate reflects the group's expertise in supply chain management in Life Science and Healthcare.

The pharmaceutical industry accounts for almost 4% of total imports in Romania. At the same time, exports in the sector have grown by 5% over the past year.

The continued development of the pharmaceutical segment at the local level is the one that sets the rising trend in import and export industry. In this context, GDP certification allows the GEFCO Group's Romanian division to begin operations in this emerging market and to provide services to manufacturers, importers and distributors of pharmaceuticals.

Many clients in the Romanian pharmaceutical industry have full confidence in GEFCO Romania, which allows the company to deliver high-quality services and the GDP law is an additional method of validating compliance with industry standards.

"Compliance with GDP standards is an achievement and additional proof for the high level of our services and the expertise we provide to our pharmaceutical partners. Maintaining the integrity of medical products throughout the supply chain is a real challenge and a complex process, which is why GEFCO Romania has developed a robust quality management system, which allows us to maintain this process within the framework of the GDP law " says Jerome Chevrolet, General Manager of GEFCO in Bulgaria and Romania, and Group Manager for the Balkans.
