LG announces the sale of the world's first OLED 8K TV

The much anticipated 88-inch OLED 8K offers a stunning viewing experience using top LG OLED technology

LG Electronics (LG) today announces the launch of its first 8K OLED TV (88Z9), the pre-order for the 88-inch TV begin this week in South Korea. Availability on key markets in North America and Europe will begin in the third quarter. LG's OLED 8K TV is the biggest one ever, a possible innovation due to LG's non-pair display technology.

This amazing new model underscores the superiority of OLED technology to conventional LED screens and offers unparalleled viewing experience. The TV uses an advanced panel with over 33,000,000 pixels of auto-emitters that make up the established image of the LG OLED TV: the most vivid colors with a wide viewing angle, an infinite contrast ratio and a true black. The images are exceptionally clear on the 88-inch TV, thanks to the 8K Ultra HD (7.680 x 4.320) resolution that offers 16 times the pixels in full HD and four times the UHD.

The superior performance of the LG OLED 8K panel is supported by the second generation of alpha (Alpha) 9 Gen 2 8K smart processors. The processor enhances image and sound quality through deep learning technology and access to an expanded visual information base. This allows the chip to optimize content by recognizing source quality and implementing the best algorithm, which guarantees images of an incredible realism.

With the 8K Gen 2 8K processor, the 88-inch LG OLED 8K TV boasts boasting processing capabilities; it can effectively upscaling 8K and improve the reduction of artifacts (now in six steps, compared to the 4K version), the result being the most true 8K picture at the time of transition from 4K (3.840 x 2.160) or 2K (1.920 x 1.080) ). The processor also analyzes the ambient conditions to get the optimum brightness of the screen. The LG 88Z9 captivates the user with its impressive audio performance. Sound quality is enhanced by an intelligent algorithm that can mix two-channel sound to deliver virtually convincing 5.1 surround sound. The deep learning technology significantly improves the result by analyzing source content to produce enhanced sound effects in movies, deeper bass for music and clearer voices for sports events.

Users can adjust the sound to match the viewing conditions, or allow the TV to choose the optimum levels for the audience. To deliver an unforgettable HDR experience, the LG OLED 8K has Dolby Atmos technology, delivering incredibly realistic sound and cleverly improving Dolby Vision-compatible content details. The TV supports HDMI 2.1, allowing users to enjoy 8K at a speed of 60 frames per second.

The TV supports both automatic low latency mode (ALLM), variable refresh rate (VRR), and enhanced audio return channel (eARC). In some markets, the LG OLED 8K TV will provide embedded versions of Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa assistants for maximum flexibility, convenience and control of the connected TV and smart devices.

"Being the first on the market with the world's first and largest OLED 8K TV demonstrates our commitment to being the leaders of the ultra-premium TV segment and providing the best viewing experience," said Brian Kwon, Mobile Communications and LG Home Entertainment. "LG has been a pioneer in bringing OLED technology to market and we will continue to introduce top-of-the-line technologies for TVs that are always pushing the limits of home entertainment."

In Romania, LG's OLED 8K TV will be at the end of this year.
