Candidates’ selection for the 2012 cycle of the ‘Executive Training Programme (ETP)’ has ended; the 2013 session of this European Commission-funded project is now open. ETP is a program aimed at supporting companies and managers with the necessary business, language and cultural training to succeed in the Japanese and Korean markets.
“In the current economic environment and considering the ambitious trade strategy of the EU versus Japan and South Korea, the potential of exporting activities provided by these markets cannot be neglected by ambitious managers” states Ioana Vadan, Business Analyst with Deloitte Consultanta, that is locally responsible of promoting this project. “The training program helps European companies draft business strategies and redirect part of their resources towards Japanese and Korean markets.”
ETP provides European companies and managers the chance of improving their skills in trade, culture and Japanese/ Korean language and integrate in networks that will allow them to penetrate the Asian markets, at costs as low as possible. In this respect, the EU is fully financing the training program, granting each participant yearly scholarships worth 26,400 Euro for Japan, and 24,000 Euro for Korea, respectively. Participant companies are also encouraged to contribute to the supporting costs of the managers attending the trainings.
“As a result of the ETP, over 1,000 managers and 800 European companies have managed to enter the two Asian markets over the years, successfully overcoming the language and cultural barriers,” adds Ioana Vadan. “A survey among participants has shown that more than 65% have been promoted to top management levels within their companies. Also, trade activities with Japan and Korea have improved substantially, as companies’ turnover doubled 10 years after finalizing the program. In brief, ETP is offering EU companies the change of expanding to Asia and creating jobs.”
Eligible candidates to the program are EU citizens, employed by companies looking for expansion in Japan and Korea. The program develops in three stages:
· three-week intensive training course in the UK– introduction to the economy, culture and modern societies of Japan and Korea;
· 30 weeks of business management and language training inTokio or Seoul;
· 12 weeks of internship with a Japanese or Korean company.
Training sessions are provided by three universities with international reputation:
· the School of Oriental and African Studies in London;
· Waseda University in Tokyo;
· Yonsei University in Seoul.
European managers may apply by accessing the website http://www.euetp.eu. The deadline for registration is May 31. The training programme will take place between November 2013 and November 2014. The program is available for 45 candidates in Japan and 15 in Korea.
