Unrecycled plastic entails both an environmental cost and a budgetary one. Recently published Eurostat data show that, in 2024, an average of 35.9 kg of plastic packaging waste per inhabitant was generated in the European Union, of which only 15.3 kg was recycled. This leaves a gap of 20.6 kg per inhabitant, with the average recycling rate reaching 42.4%.
