The aging process of the population in Romania - Economic Implications

The population decrease and aging produce three major economic effects - economic downturn, maintaining Romania's dependence of foreign capital and increasing pressure on the state budget in the long run, said Eugen Sinca, Analyst Leader BCR, presenting the report - "Economic Implications of population's aging process in Romania "

One in seven Romanians have over 65 years now; in the absence of rapid improvements of birth, one in five Romanians will be over 65 in 2030, and in 2060 the ratio will reach one in three.

 

Aging is more pronounced in the agriculture sector, where one third of the employed persons is over 55 years now.
