LG Electronics promises that Artificial Intelligence will provide an even better life

LG's Technical Director predicts that life will be enhanced by the new generation of innovations in the Artificial Intelligence field, focused on consumer

LG Electronics (LG) President and Chief Technical Officer, Dr. I.P. Park, described the vision of the company's future in its inaugural speech at CES 2019 entitled "AI for an Even Better Life."

Within the CES, the world's leading consumer electronics market, LG's chief executive explained how the three basic pillars of Artificial Intelligence - Evolution, Connection and Opening - can provide a robust AI ecosystem with diverse solutions to the real world.

A leading supporter of AI technology focused on consumer, LG continues to take on a leading role, advocating for the beneficial role of artificial intelligence in the consumer lives. The speech included LG's AI technologies deployed in daily life scenarios to give audiences of more than 3,000 representatives of the profile industry, influencers and journalists a deeper understanding of how the company is working to turn tomorrow.

LG CLOi GuideBot robot shared the scene with Dr. Park during the speech, becoming the first robot in the world to support an inaugural speech at CES.

"Will technology make life better?" Dr. Park asked in opening his speech. "Over the past 100 years, home appliances such as refrigerators, washing machines and vacuum cleaners have reduced the time spent with home work by about 75%, but cognitive work has increased significantly," Dr. Park explained. "The answer is artificial intelligence - but only if we succeed in obtaining true artificial intelligence."

Since its launch in 2017, LG's ThinQ's AI technology brand has rapidly expanded its portfolio to include air conditioners, washing machines, TVs, smartphones and robotic vacuum cleaners Dr. Park has introduced the latest LG innovations in these devices that use the power of Artificial Intelligence: the world's most advanced AI microchip, an enhanced learning machine and self-healing machines that can automatically detect and repair operating problems without interrupting ongoing operations.

"But I want to talk about more than simple improvements," Dr. Park continued. "Our ambition is to overcome the current role of LG, the leading maker of consumer electronics, and to become lifestyle innovators, serving a truly intelligent lifestyle." By detailing LG's vision of the era of artificial intelligence, Dr. Park explained how the three key ideas - Evolution, Connection and Opening - will enable AI technology to transform every aspect of everyday life. LG ThinQ products will evolve over time, learning about the user, connecting directly with consumer life, and paving the way for an innovation ecosystem strengthened by partnerships and cooperation, ultimately providing "a new and bold definition of better life."

Dr. Park highlighted the importance of intelligence evolving for consumer electronics.
In order for AI devices to overcome the state of simple voice recognition and automatic execution of tasks, they must be able to understand the purpose and intent behind each command. For such contextual understanding, Artificial Intelligence must evolve, gaining user interactions.

LG extends its unmatched knowledge of consumers from the home to the road, delivering new ground-breaking experiences for the car. In the case of a revolution in autonomous driving, LG has proposed to change and extend the very definition of the vehicle, from transport mode to mobile space. The LG solution with AI for the passenger compartment will help users optimize their time spent driving, turning their vehicles into a conference room, cinema or even a customized shopping mall.

"Building this new experience in the car requires a wide range of diverse solutions, both hardware and software ... That's why we need OPEN collaboration, " Dr. Park said, illustrating LG's ongoing efforts to facilitate a culture of open innovation. He introduced the LG collaboration with the important seat maker, Adient, to develop the intelligent seats for a personalized experience on the car. The new LG plan has been announced for its open-source webOS operating system since March 2018.

"This year, within the webOS, we will add open access to our own LG AI platform for developers around the world," Dr. Park said.

Dr. Park then presented LG's ambition to develop the potential of AI technology on a much wider scale, linking individual units so far into intelligent systems. LG's Robot Service Delivery Platform (RSDP) - will systematically coordinate what multiple robots see, hear and learn, thus transforming our work and environment. The intelligent AI-based network will allow us to radically improve the efficiency of our energy ecosystem, from production and storage to consumption. Signaling intelligence will transform the physical elements of space, such as walls, billboards or even floors into active and intelligent parts of our environment.

LG's inaugural speech included global experts, including XPRIZE Foundation founder - Dr. Peter Diamandis, renowned AI researcher - Dr. Andrew Ng, Luxoft Automotive Department Director - Alwin Bakkenes, Qualcomm Engineering Vice President - Durga Malladi, and Director of the Institute Contextual Robotics at the University of California San Diego - Professor Henrik Christensen.

"LG is a global motor in the forefront of the IA revolution that will impact all major industries, from technology to health, agriculture, transport, engineering and more," said Gary Shapiro, president , CEO of CTA. "We were delighted to have LG talk about "AI for an Even Better Life" in its first inaugural speech in ESC history."

The visitors of the ThinQ area at LG stand, no. 11100 from Las Vegas Convention Center can see personally this week how LG technology works based on collaborative and evolving artificial intelligence.
