Enel Romania appoints Valeriu Binig as Head of the Regulatory and Antitrust Department

Enel Romania named Valeriu Binig as Director of the Regulatory and Antitrust Department, while Claudia Brandus, who previously coordinated regulatory activities, joined the European Affairs Department of the Enel Group in Brussels.

Valeriu Binig is one of the most important experts of the local energy market in Romania, having more than 32 years of professional experience in the energy sector, during which he held different positions, from technical and academic ones to consultancy for activities mergers and acquisitions or fundraising.

He has worked as a responsible engineer in the field of electricity production, designer, researcher, lecturer, Phare program coordinator, program coordinator within the European Commission Delegation, top manager in utilities, administrator and consultant for the energy sector on the services segment financial consulting and investment banking activities.

As a Director of Enel Romania's Regulatory and Antitrust Department, Valeriu Binig will coordinate a team characterized by diversity and high abilities, whose main objective is to define, represent and promote the company's position on regulatory issues and legislative provisions on competition .

He will also be in charge of identifying regulatory trends in order to assess the economic and financial impact of regulations on local business lines, as well as managing regulatory and antitrust issues and relevant stakeholder relations, ensuring and monitoring compliance of local lines business and defining optimal local strategy.

Prior to joining Enel Romania, Valeriu Binig held senior management positions in consulting companies such as EY Romania or Deloitte Romania, and he held a position as a director in an investment banking and fund management team investment.

Previously, he played active roles in the transformation process of the local energy market, occupying managerial positions in energy distribution and production companies, before the separation of supply and distribution activities in the Romanian energy sector.

He was co-chair of the Energy and Environment Committee of Amcham Romania (2013-2017), member of AmCham Romania's Board of Directors (2013-2014); (2015, 2017) and partner in the development of the national energy strategy - quantitative modeling (2016). Currently, he is part of the Energy Policy Group Advisory Board.

Binig graduated from the Faculty of Power Engineering within Polytechnic University of Bucharest. He has a doctoral degree in energy systems reliability after having attended a Doctoral School at Compiegne University of Technology for 2 years. At the same time, Claudia Brandus joins the European Business Unit of the Enel Group in Brussels to promote the company's position, strategy and priorities at the level of the European Union for the countries where Enel is present, except Italy and the Iberian region.

Thus, Claudia Brandus will be responsible for institutional relations with decision makers in European institutions, as well as for monitoring and analyzing European policies such as energy policy, climate change and environmental policy, research and innovation, competition policy: antitrust, state aids and mergers.


Claudia Brandus joined Enel in 2007 as a lawyer for the new projects in Romania, becoming the legal director of Enel Green Power Romania in 2009, when Enel Green Power was established as an entity dedicated to the development and operation of renewable energy assets within the Group Enel.

Later, in 2012, it took over the leadership of regulatory activities for Europe and the new entrants to Enel Green Power, gaining significant experience in energy markets around the world.

Brandus graduated from the Law School of the University of Bucharest and continued his education through international courses such as "Leadership for Management Program" at Bocconi, Milan, IESE Business School in Barcelona, ​​"European Union Law" at King's College London, Green Academy : Green Power Mini MBA in London.
