Austrian Julius Meinl buys Heidi Chocolat

Kandia Dulce, one of the largest chocolate producer, owned by Austrian company Julius Meinl acquired Heidi Chocolat company owned by Swiss company Laderach. Following this transaction, Kandia Dulce becomes the largest local producer on this market.

The buyer formed a new company named KEX Confectionery which will own and manage the two sister-companies Kandia and Heidi. Still, according to the representatives of Kandia, the two companies will operate separately and the management teams will remain unchanged. The deal is pending the green line from the Competition Council and it will be approved at the beginning of 2013.

These are the only two companies that still produce chocolate on the local market, after Kraft Foods closed Poiana factory in 2011.
