ROOTED IN ROMANIA, BUILT TO DELIVER TECHNOLOGY FOR THE WORLD - EVANTAGE SOFT MODEL FOR GLOBAL IMPACT

Interview with Mr. ALEXANDRU ALDESCU, Managing Partner eVantage Soft

Q: How did eVantage Soft start in Romania, what was the original idea behind the company, and what market need did you aim to address? How has the business evolved since then in terms of services, markets, and clients?

Mr. ALEXANDRU ALDESCU: The eVantage Soft journey in Romania began with a very clear vision: to build a consulting and engineering company that could bridge two worlds: cutting-edge technology and real business impact. When we founded the company, we identified a significant market gap. While many organizations were talking about digital transformation, very few had partners capable of turning advanced technologies such as AI, machine learning, advanced analytics, IoT, and Industry 4.0 into measurable operational outcomes.

Most consulting players were relying heavily on generic frameworks and reusable assets. But digital transformation, especially in data-driven and industrial environments, cannot be delivered through templates. Every business has unique processes, constraints, and opportunities. This is why from the very beginning we positioned eVantage Soft as a bespoke consulting partner, one that builds tailored solutions, not slide decks; one that brings engineering depth, not one-size-fits-all methodologies.

We started in Romania with a small but highly skilled engineering core, and from the beginning we understood that delivering at scale required both operational efficiency and access to broader, high-quality talent pools. This drove our business model to expand our delivery footprint across multiple countries, building a resilient, multilingual, and cost-efficient near-shore ecosystem. Over time, this strategy led to the development of five delivery centers across Romania, Albania, Moldova, and Italy, supporting a diverse international client portfolio in industries such as automotive, energy, retail, fashion, pharma, and logistics.

As industries evolved, so did we. Our service model expanded from software engineering to enterprise platforms, advanced analytics programs, digital twins, automation, and AI-driven operational optimization. We moved deeper into Industry 4.0 and intelligent automation, supporting clients who needed not only technology, but a partner who could transform complexity into strategic clarity and accelerate decision-making.

Looking back, the core idea remained unchanged: to combine technological excellence with strategic business understanding and deliver tailored digital transformation, built around people, innovation, and measurable results.

Q: What are the main challenges in attracting and retaining top technical talent in Romania’s competitive IT industry, and what strategies have you implemented to overcome them?

Mr. ALEXANDRU ALDESCU: Attracting and retaining top technical talent in Romania is becoming increasingly challenging, largely because the market is both mature and highly competitive. Talent today has more options than ever - from global remote work opportunities to startup ecosystems and multinational R&D centers establishing local operations.

Our objective is to contribute to building the new generation of innovators, which transforms ideas into solutions, so at eVantage Soft, we learned early that the answer isn’t just about compensation, it is about purpose, growth, and community. This is why we built strong partnerships with universities like Universitatea Politehnica din București and Universitatea “Dunarea de Jos” din Galati. Together, we develop programs in AI, robotics, and automation that expose students to real industry challenges. It allows us to spot promising talent early, but more importantly, it helps create an ecosystem where innovation happens naturally - in classrooms, labs, and then in our delivery centers. As we are a bespoke consulting company, our teams get to solve real problems in AI, cloud, IoT, and Industry 4.0, the kind of work that sharpens skills and keeps curiosity alive.

Even as we expanded across Romania, Albania, Moldova, and Italy, we kept our culture entrepreneurial and flexible. People know they have room to grow, to move across teams, across countries, and across technologies. So, the lesson for us is simple: in a competitive market, you do not win talent by trying to outbid everyone. You win by creating a place where people can learn, build, and belong, and that’s the story we continue to write at eVantage Soft.

Q: How would you define eVantage Soft’s organizational culture, and how has it evolved as the company has grown? What values have you kept constant, and what aspects have you adapted over time?

Mr. ALEXANDRU ALDESCU: eVantage Soft’s organizational culture is defined by adaptability, accountability, and a deep commitment to excellence. From the beginning, we have operated in a fast-moving, innovation-driven market, so our culture naturally evolved around the ability to adapt quickly, respond flexibly to client needs, and integrate new technologies and delivery models with speed and precision. As the company has grown, we have preserved the values that shaped our early success - an entrepreneurial mindset, a genuine focus on people, unwavering integrity, and a drive for technical and operational excellence. These principles remain constant and continue to guide how we work, collaborate, and serve our clients. At the same time, our expansion into multiple countries and larger delivery operations required us to evolve. We introduced more structured processes, governance mechanisms, and scalable delivery frameworks to support international teams and ensure consistency across projects. This evolution strengthened our ability to deliver at scale without compromising the agility and problem-solving approach that differentiate us.

In essence, while our systems have matured, our cultural DNA remains unchanged: we stay flexible, client-centric, and innovation-driven, continuously adapting to market challenges while holding firm to the values that define who we are.

Q: In an era shaped by AI, automation and cloud adoption, what skills do you believe will be essential for technical leaders over the next 5–10 years?

Mr. ALEXANDRU ALDESCU: In the next 5 - 10 years, technical leaders will need to be able to transform data into real business value. Data is becoming the new currency of growth, but only if it is translated into actionable insights, automation, and intelligent decision-making. Leaders must be able to work with modern data platforms, understand real-time analytics, ensure data quality and governance, and leverage predictive intelligence to guide business transformation. As every industry becomes more digital, the pace of change will continue to accelerate.

Equally important, leaders must actively leverage AI and automation tools, not just as technologies to implement, but as strategic enablers of scale, efficiency, and innovation. Organizations that successfully embed AI into their operations, development processes, and decision frameworks will move faster, operate smarter, and remain competitive in increasingly digital markets.

Perhaps the most essential skill is the ability to stay curious, adaptive, and forward-looking. Technology cycles are accelerating, so leaders must be comfortable experimenting, unlearning, and rethinking assumptions as new breakthroughs emerge. That means future technical leaders must be adaptable, innovation-oriented, and technology-agnostic.

Q: How do you view Romania’s role as a regional technology hub? What competitive advantages does the local market offer, and what challenges still need to be addressed?

Mr. ALEXANDRU ALDESCU: When we look at Romania today, we see a country that is quietly but steadily becoming one of the most dynamic technology hubs in the region. The story starts with something Romania has always had: strong engineering talent. For decades, the technical universities here have produced some of Europe’s best software and engineering graduates.

What’s exciting now is how this foundation is evolving. Universities are consolidating and expanding their programs in technology, robotics, and AI, and we expect a significant increase in graduates with the advanced skills that the next decade will demand. This is happening just as European R&D programs, including those in automation, AI, and Industry 4.0, are accelerating. Romania is not on the sidelines; it is becoming part of the core. The country is even included in high-impact initiatives like the AI Giga Factory program, which puts Romania on the map for large-scale AI and computing innovation.

At eVantage Soft, we sit right at the intersection of these developments. We work closely with universities such as University POLITEHNICA of Bucharest and “Dunarea de Jos” University of Galati, not just as talent partners, but as innovation partners. One of our roles is to bridge real industry problems with academic research, emerging competencies, and our own technological capabilities, so that we can generate real value, and even create new intellectual property, here in Romania. This collaboration helps ensure that R&D is not theoretical, but directly connected to industrial challenges in automotive, energy, retail, pharma, and logistics.

But the story is not without challenges. To stay competitive globally, Romania must continue to invest in R&D capacity, applied innovation, regulatory flexibility, and talent retention. The evolution is underway, but long-term competitiveness depends on maintaining this momentum. The alignment between academia, industry, and technology companies like eVantage Soft is stronger than ever.

Q: What key lessons have you learned as a leader during challenging periods — such as the pandemic or times of rapid technological change — and how have these lessons shaped eVantage Soft’s agility and resilience?

Mr. ALEXANDRU ALDESCU: The past years, from the pandemic, war in the region to rapid waves of technological change, have reshaped how we lead and how we operate at eVantage Soft. These moments taught us that resilience is not something you prepare for once, it is something you build every day. One of the first lessons was that adaptability beats prediction. We realized we couldn’t forecast every disruption, but we could design a company that responds quickly. So, we learned to make decisions faster, keep a long-term vision while adjusting plans in shorter cycles, and empower our teams with greater autonomy. This agility helped us stay close to our clients even when the world felt uncertain. At the same time, the pace of innovation showed us that technology is the backbone of resilience. Because we had already invested in AI, cloud, automation, and Industry 4.0, we weren’t just able to support clients, we helped them accelerate. This pushed us to grow our own R&D and evolve our delivery frameworks. Another important insight was that structure and agility must coexist. As we expanded across multiple countries, we introduced processes not to slow us down, but to help us scale without losing our entrepreneurial spirit. And finally, we learned the power of collaboration. Working with universities, clients, and technology partners proved that resilience grows when knowledge and innovation are shared.

Q: Which industry sectors do you see as the most promising for eVantage Soft in the AI era, and how do you differentiate yourself in those verticals?

Mr. ALEXANDRU ALDESCU: As AI moves from experimentation to real-world adoption, we see some industries standing out as especially promising for eVantage Soft - industries where complexity, data, and automation needs create the perfect environment for meaningful transformation. For example, in automotive and manufacturing, factories are shifting toward digital twins, predictive maintenance, and smart automation. This is a space where we naturally shine because our roots are in engineering and Industry 4.0. We don’t offer generic frameworks - we build solutions that fit the reality of each production line. In energy and utilities, AI is becoming essential for forecasting, grid efficiency, and sustainability targets. Our strength is combining cloud, IoT, and advanced analytics into systems that work reliably at scale.

In retail, CPG, logistics, and supply chain, companies want better demand forecasting, smarter pricing, and more efficient operations. Our teams help them unlock insights from data and automate decisions that were once entirely manual.

And in pharma, where precision and compliance matter, our AI and data capabilities support smarter quality processes and faster, more reliable operations.

What truly differentiates us across all these sectors is our approach: we operate as a bespoke consulting and engineering partner, not a company that recycles templates. We combine deep technical expertise with real industry understanding, and we deliver through a strong European near-shore network.

Q: What are your growth and expansion plans for the next 3–5 years?

Mr. ALEXANDRU ALDESCU: Over the next three to five years, eVantage Soft’s growth strategy is centered on expanding both our global delivery footprint and our local market presence. We are investing in new delivery centers and regional sales offices to be closer to our clients, access broader talent pools, and support sustained international growth. We also initiated a strategy to extend our delivery capabilities into a follow the sun model, enabling continuous coverage and more effective support for our global clients.

As we move into the next phase, our focus shifts from expansion alone to maximizing the value of the delivery foundation we are building. Our regional hubs are structured as technology-centric Centers of Excellence, designed to scale delivery capacity, deepen specialized expertise, and ensure consistent, high-quality execution worldwide. These centers function as strategic delivery engines, enabling us to take on larger, more complex transformation programs with confidence and reliability.

With stable and specialized delivery centers in place, we can increasingly focus on higher-value growth initiatives, developing new business lines, creating proprietary solutions and IP, and strengthening partnerships with leading technology providers.

Q: Finally, if you could share a message with the other young entrepreneurs and tech leaders in Romania, what leadership principles would you recommend based on your own experience?

Mr. ALEXANDRU ALDESCU: The Romanian technology sector is entering a new era, and leadership today demands more than technical insight, it requires vision, discipline, and the ability to build organizations that endure. If there is one truth that stands above the rest, it is that companies are ultimately built by the people who choose to walk the journey with you. Technologies evolve, markets shift, strategies chang, but teams endure. Invest in them with intention. Surround yourself with people who challenge you, who excel in their domains, and who care deeply about the outcome. That is where real strength begins.

Another element that has proven essential is the understanding that in our industry, standing still is the fastest way to fall behind. Curiosity is no longer optional, it is a leadership discipline. The organizations that thrive are those that learn continuously, embrace new technologies early, and treat innovation as a way of thinking, not an isolated initiative. Much of eVantage Soft’s evolution has come from stepping into the unknown before the market required it.

I also believe strongly in leading with a global mindset. Romania has remarkable talent, and when that talent is paired with ambition and operational rigor, it can compete anywhere. Our own expansion and near-shore delivery model were born from the belief that local excellence can become global relevance when built with scale and quality in mind.

Every entrepreneur should know that building a company is never linear. It comes with setbacks, talent shortages, rapid technological shifts, and intense competition. What matters is not avoiding these moments, but how quickly you learn from them, how decisively you adapt, and how consistently you move forward. Resilience isn’t inherited, it’s built, decision by decision.
