Europe wastes 22 million tons of food per year, and Romanians are the least wasteful

People in the European Union (EU), led by the ones in Great Britain, waste 22 million tons of food per year, shows a study conducted at the request of the EU and published in Environmental Research Letters. Specialists add that 80% of this quantity could be avoided, states pourquoidocteur.fr.

According to AGERPRES, the study was conducted based on the data supplied by six national researches regarding food waste – Great Britain, Holland, Denmark, Finland, Germany and Romania. The authors of the study admitted the difficulty of measuring the waste in lack of viable data, so they tried to quantify it through the consumption of resources which helped produce it (water and nitrogen).
