This may be the last chance for schools to compete for IT labs donated by PROFI.
“As education is essential for a country’s future, PROFI is contributing for the third consecutive year to improving their standards in Romania. We provide computers so that graduates are better prepared for the competitive global labor market,” said PROFI Rom Food General Manager Pawel Musial. “However, education officials are not just slow to react to the campaign but they also set conditions unacceptable to us as donors, so while continuing to act as a responsible corporate citizen, we are regretfully thinking that maybe we should choose to cater to different social needs in the future.”
This year the campaign has been extended to cover high schools as well, after in the first two editions it only targeted grades I though VIII.
Just as in previous editions, there is a winning school for each standard PROFI store in operation on July 15, 2013. This time as many as 159 schools will benefit from 1749 netbooks and laptops, but again it is not PROFI that decides who the winners are, but it is the people who visit these stores.
A new voting system will speed up procedures and increase precision of school selection. After making their shopping, people can scan their bills at a touch screen located in every PROFI store, thus indicating which of the participant schools receives their points. They do not pay anything for the computers and the school that by October 20 accumulates the highest number of points at the level of one store becomes the winner of an IT lab.
In 2011 and 2012 PROFI donated a total of 3632 computers complete with WiFi modems capable to connect them into networks, and as many as 226 video projectors meant to make classes more attractive and informative. Approximately two hundred thousand schoolchildren have now access to the donated computers and their number is going to grow considerably with this year’s donation.
PROFI and its partners invested in excess of 1.5 million euro in this program over the past three years.
