Parapet, an EPC contractor for renewable energy projects, and MetaWealth, a European Real Asset Investment Platform, announce the start of construction on a new battery energy storage system (BESS), with a capacity of 50 MW / 100 MWh, in Dumbrava-Deal, Neamț County. The project marks a step forward in the development of Romania’s energy storage infrastructure and addresses an increasingly important need within the power system: greater flexibilty, in a market where the demand of renewable energy continues to grow while supply is short.
The storage system will integrate 20 BESS units and five power conversion system (PCS) units. The project also includes the construction of a new 20/110 kV high-voltage substation equipped with a 63 MVA transformer. Civil works are now commencing on site, while equipment delivery is progressing in parallel. The Kehua MV Skids (PCS) are currently in transit by sea, supporting the project’s targeted COD in Spring 2027.
“As solar and wind capacity continues to grow, the ability to store energy generated during periods of surplus and use it at a later stage is becoming essential both for balancing the power system and for making more efficient use of renewable energy. For Parapet, our involvement in the Dumbrava-Deal project is a natural continuation of our experience in building energy infrastructure and, at the same time, a confirmation of the direction in which the market is evolving: from projects based solely on generation to integrated solutions in which generation, storage and grid infrastructure work together”, said Paul Moldovan, Founder of Parapet.
“MetaWealth entered the energy infrastructure market in 2025. We saw the opportunity in Romania and once we dove deeper, we identified the gap in energy storage. Romania currently has an energy storage capacity of approximately 2.31 GWh and the target is 10 GWh by 2030. MetaWealth is on track to contribute 200 MWh across the first two assets. Working with Parapet as the EPC contractor brings us confidence that our assets will be commissioned efficently. We expect to achieve full commissioning of BESS 1 in Spring 2027”, said Michael Topolinski III, Founder & CEO of MetaWealth.
Through its involvement in the Dumbrava-Deal project, Parapet is expanding its portfolio of energy storage infrastructure projects and strengthening its position as an EPC partner for developers investing in Romania’s new generation of energy infrastructure. The company is currently implementing energy storage units with a combined capacity of 514 MWh across three counties in Romania.
PARAPET is an EPC contractor in the renewable energy sector, with offices in Romania; Nuremberg and Hamburg, Germany; and Bergamo, Italy. Since its establishment, PARAPET has installed more than 2 GW of clean energy capacity across 15 European countries. Parapet’s portfolio includes solar, wind and hybrid projects, with comprehensive services spanning design, engineering and procurement through construction and maintenance. The company operates an extensive fleet of vehicles and equipment and has dedicated in-house departments for every stage in the construction of renewable energy power plants.
