Deloitte reports four Romanian companies ranked in Technology Fast 500 EMEA 2012

Romania has four companies in Deloitte Technology FAST 500 EMEA 2012, a ranking of the most dynamic technology companies in the EMEA region: Vola.ro Student Adventure (ranked 3), SmartTel SA (158), TeamNet International (162), and CRYS Computers (247).

The average 5-year growth rate of Top 5 FAST 500 has more than doubled compared to the previous year.


This annual ranking includes the fastest growing public and private technology, media, telecommunications, life sciences and clean technology companies from 24 countries in the EMEA region (Europe, Middle East and Africa). The top considers FAST 50 rankings around the region, including the Deloitte Central Europe Technology FAST 50, launched last month


Alina Mirea, Audit Partner with Deloitte Romania, said: “Overall results indicate the strengthening of the Central Europe technology industry within the region: the performance of our Romanian companies, including a place in the first 5, as well as Poland’s entry as a country in the first 10. Competing with mature markets is not easy, but this is a rather unusual industry, with champions rising up all over the world.”


The Deloitte Technology Fast 500 is the most objective industry-ranking standard to focus on the technology sector. Entrants to the ranking must have been in business at least five years and have had base-year operating revenues of at least 50,000 Euro and current year operating revenues of at least 800,000 Euro. The leader of the 2012 edition is French-based Criteo, an Internet company that saw an outstanding 202,100% growth in revenues over the last five years. 


FAST 500 companies accelerate growth
Despite global markets uncertainty, the ranking this year shows a significantly increased average 5-year growth rate from 20,401% to 53,474% for the first five ranked companies, and from 1,287% to 1,549% for the overall ranking

Geographic Trends
France remains the most represented country for a third consecutive year, followed by the United Kingdom and Sweden. The other places are mostly unchanged from last year, except for Poland which makes into top ten represented countries on the 9th place, replacing Israel.


Sector Trends
The software sector represented 40 percent of the overall rankings with 198 companies listed on this year’s Fast 500, followed by the Internet sector with 21 percent. Rounding out the sector list is Telecommunications/ Networking (17 percent), Semiconductors/ Components/ Electronics (8 percent), Biotech/ Pharmaceutical/ Medical Equipment (6 percent), Greentech (3 percent), Media/ Entertainment (3 percent), and Computers/ Peripherals (1 percent).


Additionally, four of the companies in the top 10 were from the Internet sector and overall the Telecommunications/ Networking sector increased its representation by five, with 85 companies placing in the 2012 rankings.
