430 new drugs for chronic affections are being researched and developed

The latest report launched in June by PhRMA (Pharmaceutical Researchers and Manufacturers of America) reveals that over 430 new drugs for 15 chronic diseases affecting adults who are over 65 are currently being researched and developed.

‘The purpose of medical innovation is ensuring a better life to patients by providing them with the latest treatments that either help heal an affection, or create the conditions necessary for a chronically ill patient to have a life as close to normal as possible. In this context and given the fact that life expectancy registered a rise at both a global level – it rose by 20 years from 1950 to 2000 – and a European level, the researchers’ interest in the diseases affecting senior citizens is justified’, declared Dan Zaharescu, Executiv Manager of the Romanian Association of International Drug Manufacturers (ARPIM).
