The third year of unprecedented decline on the mergers and acquisitions market

Despite expectations that the activity of mergers and acquisitions to enter a phase of sustained growth early this year, 2013 marked an unprecedented global decline for the third consecutive year.

These decreases positions the activity of mergers and acquisitions to the lowest level in eight years and under the "dot com" period, from thirteen years ago. According to the EY analysis, global mergers and acquisitions activity fell by 6.2% compared to 2012, with 37 257 transactions announced during the year, amounting to USD 2.3 billion, down 6.3% despite some mega-deals - such as Vodafone - Verizon, the third largest transaction ever made.
