Who uses social networks more: women or men?

In Romania, as well as at a global level, over 50% of Facebook users are men

In the past few years, there have been discussions about women being the predominant social network (social media) users, even going to the extent of saying that this is ‘a woman’s world’. It has been said that women are more interested in social networks and are present in a higher number on many of them (for example, on Pininterest, according to Digiday, quoting comScore, 72% of users are women). Moreover, it has been thought that they are more active: women have 8% more friends on Facebook, and 62% of the posts on Facebook are shared by women, according to Facebook COO, Sheryl Sandberg.

Nevertheless, in October 2013, a study regarding social media users shows that the male – female disparity has changed its ratio (1.05 men for every 1 woman), which basically respects the male - female disparity at a global level: meaning, more men than women. And, in 2014, an interesting phenomenon appears, in which women are no longer the predominant users of the most important social media network, Facebook.
