Although not the most representative index, being competed by S&P500 - which follows the evolution of the 500 companies listed in the U.S., their contribution being directly proportional to capitalization (market value), while the Dow Jones contains only 30, and its calculation formula is different - Dow Jones have sufficient popularity among small investors so that the historical maximum to generate the feeling that the damages caused by the financial crisis have been left behind.
