Romanians produce the least municipal waste per capita in the EU, but do not recycle

According to data published by Eurostat, with less than 300 kilograms per capita, Romania and Poland were, in 2015, the countries in the European Union with the smallest quantities of waste generated, as opposed to Denmark (789 kilograms per capita), reports AGERPRES.

At the European Union level, the quantity of municipal waste generated was of 477 kilograms per capita, representing a decrease by 9% - compared to the largest quantity, 527 kilograms per capita, which was registered in 2002 - but, at the same time, an increase compared to 474 kilograms in 2014. This was the first annual increase since 2007.


Moreover, Eurostat data show that, in 2015, at EU level, 29% of the municipal waste were recycled, another 28% were deposited in landfills, 26% were incinerated and 17% were turned into compost.
