Mixed effects of the US dollar’s appreciation - fuels are getting more expensive, products in the Euro area are getting cheaper

The US dollar’s record appreciation from the latest period of time, as well as the fact that there are fundamental premises for this trend to continue, will be reflected, most probably, in the gradual increase of the fuel price, taken into consideration that the imports of hydrocarbons are, mainly, denominated in dollars.

The prices of some food items, such as exotic fruits, coffee, cacao and some cereal, but also various electric and electronic equipment from South-East Asia, including China, will be affected. In the specific case of goods from China, it is possible for them to become more expensive if prices in USD do not drop as a consequence of the depreciation of the yuan.
