Huawei celebrates 10 years of innovation in Romania

Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, celebrates today its 10th anniversary of innovative presence in Romania

In 2003, three years after officially entering the European market, Huawei identified Romania as a strategic location for the company’s expansion in Eastern Europe. Since then, Huawei has grown into becoming a strategic partner for the major communications operators in Romania, developing high technology solutions and providing excellent services to its customers.

As the leading wireless and broadband solution provider, Huawei employs more than 800 employees in Romania, out of which 70% represent local workforce. “Our people are our best asset. Huawei greatly values their efforts and contributions to the company’s continuous progress, as well as the trust and support of our clients and partners. They can help us make things possible,” said Wang Haitao, CEO of Huawei in Romania. “Developing our operations in Romania was a natural step for us to move forward, as Huawei saw the technological trends of the local market and seized to opportunity to expand its business here. We took the best decision and we would like to thank the Romanian authorities for their support throughout these exciting ten years,” concluded Haitao.

The Prime Minister of Romania, Victor Ponta, present at the anniversary event, appreciated Huawei’s efforts to develop the next generation of technology and to grow the Romanian ITC sector.

Huawei is very proud to have been in Romania for ten years, being a strategic partner for the main telecommunications players such as Romtelecom, Cosmote, Vodafone, Orange and RCS&RDS. Moreover, the company implemented in Romania one of its four Global Service Centers (GSCs), providing best-in-class network operations for multi-operator, multi-network and multi-country support. Over 400 engineers work in the Huawei Romania GSC to deliver innovative and competitive services, using a highly automated environment. Aside from this strategic service hub, Huawei also developed its Accounting Service Shared Center (ASSC), one of the largest units of its kind in the company group. Huawei Romania ASSC fulfills the external compliance and statutory requirement to support all 37 European subsidiaries with accounting services such as global payment, sales accounting or auditing support. As of June 2013, Huawei Romania ASSC has 245 employees, out of which 165 are Romanian experts.

The ten years’ anniversary of Huawei’s operations in Romania marks a chapter of sustained efforts to develop new state-of-art technology solutions and bring further innovation to the IT&C market. The company plans to expand its local footprint increasing the number of employees and local purchase budget, capitalizing on the existing regional centers (GSC and ASSC) and investing in the community through partnerships with local universities and internship programs.
