Is the business environment ready for a new stage in SAF-T reporting? More than 15,000 taxpayers were notified by ANAF for submitting incorrect or incomplete declarations

SAF-T reporting in Romania, mandatory from 2022 for large taxpayers and from 2023 for medium taxpayers, remains a challenge for the business environment, due to the complexity of the standard control file (D406), which includes a series of information that must be reported by to taxpayers.

The National Agency for Fiscal Administration (ANAF) started on August 20, 2024 an extensive verification campaign of companies that did not submit or submitted partially or incorrectly the SAF-T declaration (D406) and sent 15,023 notifications targeting large taxpayers and the middle ones. The final goal is to improve the degree of compliance and to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the transmitted data. All these checks are based on a series of tests to be constantly applied by the tax authorities on the data reported through the SAF-T files.
