MECANOEXPORTIMPORT S.A. was established in December 1969 having as basic, traditional foreign trade operations and services related to such operations, advertising, marketing and sales of rolling stock and components of any type and for any gauge - mainly axles, wheels, wheels-sets and bogies - as well as passenger coaches and freight cars, locomotives, train-sets, industrial constructions (rolling stock repair workshops), compressors, Diesel engines, road constructing and repairing equipment, radiators, turbochargers and other industrial equipment manufactured by Romanian specialized plants. After 1989, MECANOEXPORTIMPORT became a joint stock fully private trade company and the main shareholder of S.M.R. SA - Bals, manufacturer of axles, wheels, wheel-sets and bogies (former I.O.B.- Bals, built during 1965-1970) for whose modernization and retechnologization it has invested substantial amounts of money after its acquisition. As a consequence, S.M.R. SA - Bals has obtained a number of international attestation certificates for the production designated for the foreign markets, which enables it to provide equipment/subassemblies according to the international standards in the rolling stock field, in compliance with the requirements of the foreign partners. S.A. - Bals, under IOB trade mark, are: - railway wheels, axles, wheelsets, solid wheels, cast and welded bogies, tyres and wheel discs - according to UIC and AAR norms; - UIC bogies of following types: Y25Rs2a, Y25ACsll, Y25Rss, Y25Lsd1; - different cast and forged items.
