KOOP launches in Romania

The regional fintech hub opens doors in Bucharest

Starting with 1th August, KOOP - the fintech hub expands to the Romanian market to enable innovation and facilitate cross-border cooperation in financial services.

Headquartered in Istanbul, KOOP is an ecosystem enabler with high value-added services for startups, scaleups, corporates, merchants, operators, technology providers, investors, banks, insurance companies and asset managers. It offers a wide array of deliverables from mentorship to advisory, office space, matchmaking, lab services and API Gateway. Since its inception in September 2017, KOOP has delivered community building programs on four main program verticals that are Blockchain, Open Banking, Wealthtech and Insurtech. Four industry summits, six banking roundtables, ten meetups, two international fintech tours and workshops are among those community activities.

KOOP’s Romania Program will follow a similar path of community building and innovation activities. KOOP partners with FO DIGI CAP to oversee the Romania Program. Commons will also support the Program by offering coworking and venues for the KOOP activities.

Yoni Schimmel, Co-founder of Commons, has said “The innovation ecosystem in Romania is growing rapidly. At Commons, we provide coworking spaces and services for start-ups, freelancers, entrepreneurs and businesses that want to be on the cutting-edge of this thriving environment. In our exciting collaboration with KOOP and FO DIGI CAP, Commons is pleased to announce that it will further bolster its financial sector services”.

Florin Oprea, Founder and CEO of FO DIGI CAP, has expressed: “Fintech is a worldwide phenomenon since it has the potential to revolutionize the way financial services are provided. We are excited to partner with KOOP and Commons in nurturing the Romanian fintech ecosystem.”

Demet Zubeyiroglu, Co-founder and Managing Director of KOOP, has indicated “Romania is one of the largest markets in the Eastern Europe. The country may largely benefit from fintech, financial inclusion programs and disruptive technologies such as blockchain and AI. We look forward to supporting the local ecosystem and developing bridges of cross-country collaboration. We are planning to expand the KOOP Program soon to other markets in the region. We express gratitude both to Commons and FO DIGI CAP, our domestic partners, for their constructive approach to the KOOP’s Romania Program. Without their support, we could have not launched it.”
